Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak, a friend of the US government and a key player in the post-9/11 struggle against international terrorism, should loosen his grip if only to let in some fresh pro-democracy blogging from imprisoned blogger Alaa. How do we know when a regime is a failure? How about an Egyptian head of state who consistently receives 99% of the vote in every election but still manages to inspire broken ribs and rough granny handling at rallies like the one pictured above.
Makes you want to grab your wheeze bag for the slow ride to the lower rings of hell.
